Regional Hiking and Riding Trails and Bikeways
The Bell View Trail
Currently the County of Orange's trail coverage is one of the most extensive in all of Orange County. Many individuals choose to bike, run, hike, ride, and walk on these beautiful trails. The trails throughout Orange County are a combination of Class I, Class II, and Class III trails that are challenging and enjoyable to all who use them. Used for both recreational and traveling purposes, the residents of South County continue to utilize and cherish the natural and constructed trails.
Almost every city in Orange County has a plan to develop trails and bikeways. Typically, they are Class I (paved off-road) bikeways and natural surface trails, and these paths separate from vehicular traffic and link recreation areas such as mountains, beaches, and parks. The purpose of these non-motorized routes are also used by commuting bicyclists, equestrians and pedestrians to reach schools, transportation centers, and places of employment. These regional trails are the links that bring County residents from the mountains to the sea, where they are able to escape the busy city life.
Currently, over 40 local and regional Class I bikeways extend across the county, totaling over 265 miles. Of these bikeways, some of the major ones include Santa Ana River (29 miles), Aliso Creek Bikeway (14 miles), and San Diego Creek (7 miles). Major regional trails include the Bell View Trail, Aliso Creek Trail, and Anaheim Hills. Hundreds of individuals use these paths for fitness and recreation.
